WKFU - Your Brooklyn Weather Station!

The “WKFU” Weather Story

The WKFU Weather Report began in January 2015 as a little joke. New York City was expecting the snow storm of the century, and they called it “Snowpocalypse.” Twenty-five inches of snow was expected to be dumped on our city. Mayor Bill de Blasio closed down all the streets and highways in the area, the public school system, and the New York City subway system -- which is almost never done. He even closed off the streets to bikes and delivery people.

I decided that I was going to go outside and report what was happening, and put the videos on Facebook. I figured there would be a few inches of snow per hour, and I thought it would be interesting to me and other people. So, I went out at 10 p.m., 11 p.m., midnight and 1 a.m. Nothing was happening, so I decided to go to bed. When I woke up the next morning, I went out with my trusty ruler and there was FOUR INCHES of snow on the ground! This was a disaster for the mayor and an embarrassment to the city. The weather people apologized because they got it wrong, and de Blasio played it as “how lucky we were” that the storm didn't hit us.

I found reporting the weather fun, so I continued to report during snow storms, rain, cold, and heat. After a while I came up with the call letters WKFU and eventually put a little song at the end of my reports. My first videos are kind of rough, but now I’m more polished -- LOL! I've been reporting the weather for six years now, with a weekly appearance on Vicki Genfan’s Front Porch Thursday show.

Anyway, this is Kelly Bedwell, reporting to you, from WKFU New York!!
